There once was a man who had everything -

a modern apartment with sea views, an electric scooter, and enough savings to enjoy every sunset dinner out.

His name was Edward Collins, but everyone in town called him El Inglés Gruñón - the grumpy Englishman

He had lived in Spain for five years, but had never joined a single fiesta.

He kept his curtains closed ('too bright'), set his air-conditioning too cold ('too warm'), and called Christmas 'too noisy.'

When the neighbours hung up their lights, he muttered, 'Waste of electricity.'

When the children sang Feliz Navidad, he shut his window tighter.

But one Christmas Eve, everything changed.

🌙 The First Spirit - The Light of the Past

Just as Edward reached for his coffee, the lights flickered.

Out of nowhere stood an old Spanish fisherman, holding a small lantern.

'Come,' said the man softly. 'Let's go back.'

Suddenly, Edward was no longer in his sleek apartment, but in a tiny seaside cottage - whitewashed walls, beams, laughter.

'This was your dream,' said the spirit. 'Remember why you came here?'

Edward watched his younger self - full of energy, excited about painting, meeting new people, feeling alive again.

Somewhere along the way, that version of him had disappeared.

'The light was never the problem,' whispered the fisherman.

'You simply forgot to leave it on.'

💫 The Second Spirit - The Spirit of Now

Music filled the air.

Edward stood in the middle of the town square.

Strings of lights hung between balconies, children danced, neighbours shared cava and laughter.

There was Doña Isabel, his neighbour, dancing with her granddaughter.

The family next door waved at him - they'd even saved a chair for him.

See?'' said a young woman beside him, her smile glowing like the lights.

'They never shut you out. You just never stepped in.'

Edward looked around - at the warmth, the smell of roasted almonds, the sound of people talking.

And for the first time in years, he felt something gentle in his chest: regret, but also hope.

🌅 The Third Spirit - The Spirit of the Future

The third spirit came without a word.

Edward looked out over the same sea - grey, still, lifeless.

His curtains were closed. His house was silent.

'Is this... my future?' he whispered.

The spirit nodded.

'When you live without sharing, even the sun forgets where you are.'

Then, with the first light of dawn, Edward was back in his own living room - his heart pounding, the sound of laughter echoing from outside.

🌞 Christmas Morning

Edward pulled open the curtains.

The sunlight streamed in; the village was alive.

He stepped outside - still in his slippers - and called to Doña Isabel,

'Do you have a chair for me?'

She beamed. Always! Always, my friend!

And that's how he spent Christmas morning - at a noisy, joyful table, surrounded by neighbours, cava in hand, smiling for the first time in years.
